We will use the best tidal venue in the Islands to test your kayaking skills and build rough water confidence. In this Advanced Deception Pass Clinic, we will dive deeper into the intricacies of reading water, paddling in strong tidal currents., rescues and more.

The Advanced Deception Pass clinic offers seasoned kayakers an opportunity to refine their skills in challenging conditions while navigating one of Washington State's most dynamic waterways. Participants skills will be challenged through exercises in strong tidal flow including crossing strong eddylines, paddling in the presence of whirlpools, crossing channels, and playing on any features that are present. Progressing your rough water skills and having fun are the main goals of this course!

The clinic incorporates real-time assessments and feedback to enhance decision-making and situational awareness, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental influences on paddling dynamics. By the end of the session, kayakers will leave with enhanced confidence, improved technical skills, and a greater ability to tackle complex paddling scenarios in Deception Pass and similar environments.

• Prerequisites

  This is an Intermediate/Advanced level course. You should have experience paddling in current where eddylines are present, know how to wet exit, and perform a rescue. This is a natural progression from our Deception Pass Clinic.
