IR Skirt Fit Quick Reference
These suggestions are based on what typical class III-IV boaters would want. Those paddling class V or looking for an easier fit may want to look at smaller or bigger size skirts for cockpits that are near the ends of the fit range.

IR Skirt Overview:
Rand Skirts like our Lucky Charm and Royale use an extruded rubber rand to attach skirt to rim. Rand skirts tend to be very difficult to implode, but can be harder to put on a rim. These are a good choice for someone paddling harder whitewater or someone with a very implosion prone rim.
Bungee skirts like the Klingons, Shockwaves and J-los use a latex bungee cord to attach the skirt to the rim and tend to be a bit drier and generally easier to put on. However, they can be more prone to implosion on certain rims.
Skirt models:
Shockwave: Our basic beginner to intermediate bungee skirt. Less reinforcement means this skirt is stretchier, easier to put on and fits a wider variety of rims.
J-Lo: A women’s specific version of the Shockwave, with a 2” shorter, conical tunnel that stretches easier around the hips.
Klingon: A reinforced bungee skirt with more tension and extra neoprene extending past bungee. The extra tension makes for a drier fit, and the extra neoprene fills gaps in poorly shaped rims. A great choice for really leaky rims, or playboating.
Klingon Empire: A klingon skirt with Kevlar reinforcement on the front of the skirt.
Lucky Charm: Our standard rand skirt with extra neoprene extending past the rand. Perfect for running whitewater where an implosion is bad news, or for really implosion prone rims. The extra neoprene extending past the rand fills in gaps in poorly shaped rims.
Royale: The same as the Lucky Charm except with Kevlar reinforcement around the front of the skirt.
Know your rim designs!
Gentle curves make for equal skirt tension all the way around. Long straight edges make for loose tension, leaks and implosion. Long cockpits make it difficult for smaller people to reach front of rim.
Level rims are easier to keep dry. Skirts bridge along convex curves in rims over thigh and knee braces. Rims that are low in the middle and have a up- sloping back rim can make putting a skirt on very difficult.
Skirts fit snuggly into rims that are close to the deck all the way around. Sloping rims encourage implosion. Big gaps in rims are hard to keep dry.
Last but not least
Older Pyranha Burn rims are long, narrow and sloped up. They really almost require a rand skirt. Note it can be difficult for some people to reach the front of those rims. It’s not the skirt’s fault.
Composite boats typically only require bungee skirts. Rand skirts are overkill. For Klingons make sure there is at least 3/4” rim/deck clearance all the way around.
XXL rims require huge skirts that can be susceptible to implosion. Sometimes a rand skirt is the only thing that will grip well enough to run anything harder than class III.
