Depending on the flow speed, this course is tailored for both beginner and intermediate paddlers seeking to refine their abilities and gain confidence in moving water.

Throughout the course, expert instructors will guide you through essential concepts such as reading the tides, understanding flow dynamics, and executing effective maneuvers. Hands-on practice will focus on skills like eddy turns, ferry gliding, and maintaining control in various current conditions. Participants will have the opportunity to apply their skills in real-time scenarios, gaining valuable experience while surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of Deception Pass.

Safety is a key component of our training, and we will cover important topics such as risk assessment, rescue techniques, and group management in tidal environments.   This is a natural progression from our Introduction to Paddling in Currents course. You must have at least a basic understanding of how to move your kayak, wet exits, and rescues.
