Sea Kayak Safety & Rescues

June 29 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm PDT

$135
Kayak rescue instruction, Deception Pass, Washington

Rescue Skills are the among most valuable skills for paddlers wanting to spend time on the water. Whether you’re just getting started, or have been at it for a while, this course will act as an introduction, refresher, and “tune-up” for kayakers at all levels. Body Boat Blade Coaches are up to date on the most effective and efficient methods for kayak rescues.

In this class we will focus on the assisted partner rescue and the self-rescue. There are different techniques for each, and we will break them down into parts so you can choose which works best for you. We will also look at the most basic methods of calling for help in a situation where you might need outside assistance.

This class pairs well with our other Foundations courses and is a good precursor to our 2-day Incident Management course, where we dive deep into risk management and responding to sea kayaking’s most common (and some uncommon) incidents.

HIGHLIGHTS
Foundation courses develop good body awareness, balance, and understanding of how the boat and paddle interact with the water. A solid base of skills will make you a more efficient paddler. The goal for this course is to promote efficient, effective, and ergonomic kayaking for long term paddler development.

  • Wet Exits – multiple ways of getting out
  • Self Rescue Techniques
  • Effective Assisted Rescues
  • How to call for help
