If you plan to kayak on the sea, then you need to know how to respond quickly and appropriately. Some techniques, such as the roll, can be best learned in a managed environment. Kayaking in a pool offers a warm, sheltered, and controlled environment to practice rescue and rolling skills. Learning in a comfortable environment allows you to focus fully on the technique and not on what might be underwater or downstream.
Our coaches are supportive and break the skills down into their parts, so the students gain a full understanding of each technique.
Foundation courses develop good body awareness, balance, and understanding of how the boat and paddle interact with the water. Learning to roll is a key foundation skill.
- Professional rolling instruction in a comfortable environment
- Exercises to practice at home
- Video feedback
Capsize recoveries such as rolling is among the most sought-after skills in paddle sports. In our Rolling Progression class, we will learn our progression techniques in the comfort and safety of a pool. In this pool kayak class, we will spend time developing a solid understanding of what your body needs to do in order to recover from an off-balanced position whether it is slight or a complete capsize. We will help you develop solid foundations for successful practice.
You will need to bring a kayak, paddle, skirt, and PFD. We have equipment available for a $30 rental fee. Footwear is not required, but if you do bring them make sure they are clean. Nose plugs and goggles are also helpful for spending a lot of time upside down.
