Capsize recoveries such as rolling, and solid effective bracing are among the most sought after skills in paddle sports. In our Combat Rolling class we will take your flatwater skills and apply them to moving water. Many of the mechanics of rolling and bracing are the same and you will learn to apply the correct technique in a dynamic environment. At Body Boat Blade we’ve developed an effective progression to get students to learn and be successful at these highly desired kayaking skills. In this kayak class we will spend time developing a solid understanding of what your body needs to do in order to recover from an off-balanced position whether it is slight or a complete capsize. We will help you develop solid foundations for successful practice.
Combat rolling is all about muscle memory and finding your zen while upside down. In this course we will work on muscle memory, then take your roll into the environment which you will be using it in.
Highlights:
*A working kayak roll in calm water is important for this class. If you are still working on this skill, but have not yet mastered it, then we recommend joining our Foundations Kayak Rolling and Bracing class first.
You should be reasonably comfortable kayaking in moving water and also possess a working knowledge of basic paddling strokes. Participants should be comfortable wet exiting and re-entering their kayaks and having their heads underwater. You need to be able to swim. We will be wearing life jackets at all times during the class but you will need to be able to swim through the water for short distances.
