A successful circumnavigation of Vancouver Island in 44 days

Good to be home - Leon and TaraHello Everyone!

We made it home to Orcas Island! 44 incredible days. We are glad to be home and see family and friends, but sad that this trip had to come to an end.

Our last 7 days was a push from Tofino to make it back in our hoped for 44 days. We had a 30 mile stretch and coming around Sherringham Point in the Straight of Juan de Fuca we noticed some Orca whales off in the distance.
North Beach: Shawna, Tara and Leon laughing As we paddled on a bearing from headland to headland about 20 Orca whales came right in and followed us on the same bearing for the next 15 nautical miles/3 hours! We felt like part of the pod. It was one of the many awe inspiring experiences we have had on this journey.

We hope to have time in the next few weeks to sift through pictures, and journal entries and reflect back on our trip and write a more in depth article. We know right now that we will never be sorry that we took the time off to do something like this. We are more inspired now than ever about paddling, being fit, and feeling more connected than ever to this most amazing natural world that we all share.

Did we mention that we got engaged! Leon proposed to me at Cape Scott! Of course I said yes!

We hope that you all had a fantastic summer and we look forward to seeing you on the water!
