Coaching Courses - 2008

Body Boat Blade is owned and operated by two of the highest rated and passionate coaches in North America. Through years of experience training and assessing coaches across the country and around the world, they have gained a large \"tool box\" of skills and knowledge in the coaching process. COACHING PROCESS

PREREQUISITES: Moderate paddling abilities, an open mind, and desire to learn.

For coaches and paddlers who wish to expand their practical skills and theoretical knowledge in teaching paddle sports. The class includes interactive on-water and classroom sessions. The two day training will cover, but is not limited to these coaching behaviors:
  • Observation and analysis skills
  • Verbal input and instruction
  • Use of demonstration
  • Goal setting
  • The use of practice and feedback
  • Questions and command words
Many coaches claim the Coaching Process Course to be the single best in their coaching development!

LEARNING PROGRESSION: Introduces and reinforces skills and concepts that apply at all levels.
BCU COACH LEVEL 1 TRAINING

PREREQUISITES: BCU 2 Star Award, BCU Canoe Safety Test, up to date First Aid and CPR Certificates, BCU Membership, approved C-1 form.

This is an introductory coaching award with an overriding priority for safety. This course is intended for those who wish to introduce kayakers at a "taster level", in sheltered waters, under the supervision of a higher level coach.

LEARNING PROGRESSION: This is the beginning of the coaching track.
BCU COACH LEVEL 2 TRAINING

PREREQUISITES: BCU 3 Star Award, BCU Canoe Safety course, up to date First Aid and CPR Certificates, Comprehensive BCU Membership, approved C-1 form.

This is an international qualification for coaches who want to introduce others to kayaking on sheltered coastal waters. A BCU Coach Level 2 understands the principles of coaching, organizes safe and enjoyable sessions, develops the basic strokes, and leads journeys on flat protected water.

LEARNING PROGRESSION: Introducing others to kayaking on sheltered water for safe and fun learning.
BCU COACH LEVEL 3 SEA TRAINING
3 days
FEE: US $365.00

PREREQUISITES: BCU Coach Level 2 Award, BCU 4 Star Sea Award, Comprehensive BCU Membership, up to date First Aid and CPR certificates, up-to-date BCU Log Book, and approved C-1 Form.

A BCU Coach Level 3 has strong coaching and leadership abilities, uses the coastal environment as a coaching tool, improves students' technique, and applies a wide breadth of knowledge of paddle sports. This is an internationally recognized award for leading and teaching on open coastal water.

LEARNING PROGRESSION: Prepares coaches to lead and coach students in open coastal environments. This training is required for BCU Coach Level 3 Assessment.
BCU COACH LEVEL 4 SEA TRAINING

Description of this course is pending based on the new U.K.C.C. qualifications.
COACHING FOR HIRE

Over the years, Body Boat Blade has worked with clubs, outfitters, guide companies, and other instructional centers to "Train their Trainers" and guides. We have also worked at trade and skills symposiums around the world. For us, these opportunities have been very fun and rewarding.
